REWOVEN, a sustainable garment made from recycled waste

post-image

Every second 63.75 tons of food and material are discarded, yet very little of this waste is repurposed in meaningful, long-term solutions such as garment design.

For my 2026 Major Project, I aim to raise awareness of sustainability issues, by creating a eco-friendly statement garment from bio-materials and upcycled fabric - tackling the issue of food and textile waste.

Supporting my project, I am seeking advice on developing recipes for biodegradable material, utilising natural ingredients to provide structure for my garment as well as guidance on textile techniques, using recycled waste such as food, plastic, and fabric to create textures.

What do you think?

Having already experimented with a variety of biomaterial recipes as shown in the above image, I am looking for possible ways I can incorporate food waste to add texture, pigment or shape to the biomaterial which will be transformed into sewn clothing pieces.

Please comment below if you have any questions about my project or have ideas of how I can transform common waste products into sustainable details for my garment!
